[easybuild] easyblock: multiple builds with different parameters?

I want to extend the ParMETIS easyblock so that it builds both the static and the shared library. For that, two separate builds are necessary, one with -DSHARED=1 and one without, because the build system doesn't allow to build both at the same time. I'm pretty sure that there are other EasyBlocks that already do something similiar but I can't happen to remember which ones. Can you point me in the right direction on what I need to change in order to implement this?
