Is there something we can change in EasyBuild that would have made this
easier to catch?
Make the Perl easyblock print a warning when $PERL5LIB is already
defined, for example?

Hmm, that's a strange problem...
Do you mind sharing the full EasyBuild log file for closer inspection?
I assume this problem is persistent, i.e. it fails again in the same
way if you try again?
Can you also share the output of "eb --show-config" and "eb
--show-system-info"?
