Thanks for the tip. 

I think I may just have been confused by fact that my

  tail -f slurm-12012527.out

showed an error, but in fact the build actually continued and ended with

  Build succeeded (with --ignore-test-failure) for 1 out of 1

The build took nearly an hour, so I was doing other things 

Just to make things more even less obvious, the original Slurm job seems
to have failed after 5s and been restarted and then succeeded.

tl;dr 

Everything is fine.
