phpgroupware was mentioned as an alternative - I can not comment on
that as I have never used it. Citadel was also mentioned - this I have
used, it had some peculiarities but it seemed to work well and would
sync with a number of PIM clients. The version I used (quite some time
ago) had a problem with dates in the calender changing time zone when
going from one client to another via citadel. This was a long while
ago and has probably been fixed.
A nice feature was that fields in the address book that were present
in a client synced with another client, via citadel, even though
citadel did not support those fields.
