My Advise is to user Ubuntu 10.04 at this time. A 100% stable Distribution for
KVM (for us)

We are using KVM with the convirt tool and only Hardware virtualisation.
In our environment we have no problems with screen resolution because the
screen is only virtual via vnc-access.

the standard xorg.conf shold work but you have to connect to your KVM-Server
via 'ssh -X u...@servername'.
Then start your vnc-client and the display appears at your local Desktop no
matter of the screen resolution of your KVM-Server.

If the Server is not at your local LAN I suggest to use the free-NX
implementation at the Server and NoMachines NX-Client at your local Desktop
with very high performance. (Try to install a NX-Forwarder virtual machine
that works perfectly for us and no changes have to be done to our Ebox
Server)

AFAIK nothing has to be done.
