Hi,

I had exactly the same problem. It is quite a mission to add x-windows.

You have to first edit your apt sources (/etc/apt/sources.list). You can google for debian sarg apt sources and put them in there. It is a good thing to comment out the ebox sources.

Then run apt-get update.

Then in order:

apt-get install x-window-system
apt-get install x-window-system-core
apt-get install xdm
apt-get install gnome-desktop-environment

If the installer does not ask you about your screen, keyboard and mouse, run:

dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg or dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xfree86 (depending on which one is installed).

I tried running it in one line before but ran into problems.

Unfortunately you will need to download all these files (about 100Mb in total) and takes quite long depending on your connection.

I am sure EBox could add all these files to their ISO image so that one don't have to struggle getting it working.

I hope this helps.

Kind Regards,
Johan

Hi,

Hi Geoffrey,

Downloaded the ebox-installer.iso, burnt the CD, booted and followed
the 2 stage installation process. All seemed to go well.

But, how do I get X-windows to work? As a knoppix user, I looked for
a 'startx' routine but none found.

There is no X window environment installed. In order to use eBox, you
must use the Web console interface accessing via
https://<machine_ip_address>/ebox.

The default password is 'ebox' as well.

Best regards and thanks for choosing eBox!
