I had the same problem which I have solved by installing
etch and downgrading to sarge.
If I knew at the epoch about the backported installers, it'd
save me some time ...

Your SATA drives seem not to be recognised by the sarge kernel, which is
old. I suggest installing eBox with a newer kernel as this how-to shows
[1].
