So if I understand you correctly, you are saying that you could connect your windows clients could log in until you changed the pdc network name, right? I don't have a box here to reproduce that now, i'll do it tomorrow. In the meantime can you check if slapd is running, if it's not start it with /etc/init.d/slapd start? A few days ago there was an issue with the slapd package in Hardy.
