OK, but I do want to filter on searches but just not so hectic.  It should
allow legit searches.

What I usually do is allowing everything from google.com in:

HTTP proxy-> Filter Settings-> Domains filtering -> Domains list

Add google.com with policy always allow. And the google search will always 
work.

If you want to mess with the dansguardian configuration, modify the
templates 
under /usr/share/ebox/stubs/squid/dans*
