        Hello! Yes, a standard desktop will do, for up to
a few hundred users. The usual limiter on performance is the
server's network card; the faster the better. CPU and HD
space can be nominal, nothing special required. RAM amount
will affect the maximum number of threads; about 1GB is
recommended for every 500 logged in users.
