Something is up with AVG 8 Free Edition. The first time I tried to connect, both on my kids' computer and mine -- kids is an Athlon 64 running XP Home Edition, my laptop is an Intel Celeron also running XP Home -- the computer crashed hard. I couldn't connect, and came home to "delayed write failed" errors. After rebooting and CHKDSK'ing everything was fine, and EchoVNC played nice with AVG and I could connect to my laptop (I just installed EchoVNC here on the kid PC, so I'll have to try to connect tomorrow morning from work).
This does NOT happen with the paid version of 8.0, oddly enough. It also does not happen with the paid OR free version of 7.5. 8.0 includes anti-spyware features (7.5 did not). I don't know if that has anything to do with this situation. Regardless, I'm approaching it as an AVG problem, not an EchoVNC problem, and $DAYJOB is an AVG reseller, so finding the right place to report a bug shouldn't be hard. I'm just reporting this problem here because EchoVNC users will probably want to know about it. -- Steve Sobol, Victorville, CA PGP:0xE3AE35ED www.SteveSobol.com Geek-for-hire.
