Mr.King: Hello! I believe that the echoWare client sends an "IsAlive" message (about 30 bytes) to the echoServer once every 10 seconds, which works out to about 250kB a day, per EchoVNC client. The echoServer uses these "heartbeats" to detect relatively quickly if a client is still connected, and the heartbeats also help the TCP session "alive" thru any routers or proxies that expect periodic traffic.
I'll ask the developers to compile a version of echoWare that has a reduced IsAlive frequency. We may also need to update the echoServer so that it doesn't confuse the reduced frequency with a disconnection. Are you still running the Windows-flavored echoServer? cheers, Scott On Aug 9, 2008, at 1:00 AM, Howard King wrote: > Hi Guys, > > I am using echoVNC with a paid version of the echoServer software > > It is being used for support across satellite links > > Due to the cost of these satellite links charged at amount per MB I > have > a request for a patch > > Can anyone help in supplying details or supply me a patch where I can > reduce the refresh rate between local echoVNC and the echoServer > > I am using netmeter to check the data and it looks like the refresh is > every 10 seconds upload from the echoVNC to the echoServer > > Can anyone help and show me how to reduce this from 10 seconds to > maybe > 100 seconds in order to reduce my total airtime costs over many days > of > usage > > Yes I am more than prepared to make a contribution to assist the > development of echoVNC > > Regards, > > Howard ------------------------------------------------------------------------- This SF.Net email is sponsored by the Moblin Your Move Developer's challenge Build the coolest Linux based applications with Moblin SDK & win great prizes Grand prize is a trip for two to an Open Source event anywhere in the world http://moblin-contest.org/redirect.php?banner_id=100&url=/ _______________________________________________ Echovnc-users mailing list Echovnc-users@lists.sourceforge.net https://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/echovnc-users
