Scott:

Heya. Yes, in order to "remote" your Mom's PC, it needs to be running
a "remote control server" of some sort, such as a VNC server. That's a
specific piece of software, one of two pieces.
The other piece is the "Viewer", which you run on the PC you want
to take remote control from (e.g., your PC or your sib's PC).
Most VNC installers, including ours, put both pieces onto your
computer, even though you usually only need one or the other.

The EchoVNC software is completely free, please try it out. By default,
it logs you into our "demo echoServer" (which helps make firewall-
friendly
connections). The only thing we sell are licenses to the echoServer,
if you
want to run your own. But for supporting your Mom's PC, you're welcome
to
use our demo echoServer whenever...

cheers,
Scott
