This problem did not appear in a previous version of ME (with the same
folders), which is why I am thinking that it may be a configuration of
proguard as suggested by Kevin. Here too, I am using the same proguard 3.7,
and the same configuration (just setting the proguard root folder name).

Although I thought I had squashed all of the bugs in handling spaces in 
paths, this appears to possibly be another one.  My guess is that if you 
put your workspace and projects into folders without spaces, you will 
find that things work fine.
