Hi Riccardo, all phones I know having WLAN use the WLAN Transparently like other Internet-Accesspoints. You can use the IP-Adresses of you LAN as if they where Internet-Adresses.
I do not think that you will be able to configure WLAN using J2ME. The WLANs have to be configured in the settings of the phone. E.G. the Nokia N80 and N95 can have multiple Accesspoints to the internet, which can be WLAN. If you open a connection in a Midlet, then you are able to choose the Accesspoint you configured, but you cannot search and login into unknown networks. Is that what you wanted to know?
