Ok, it seems that the GC maintainers' suggestion is that we do our own release cycle of their software, testing and packaging it. Since this is not my job, I have chosen a compromise:
- ECL ships with two versions of the garbage collector, 7.1 and CVS-unstable - The last one is only activated for OS X Lion. This is chosen at configuration time. This means my previous instructions become obsolete. You simply have to configure and build ECL as usual. It is recommended, though, to change compiler supplying the flag CC=gcc-4.2 to ECL at configuration time -- I am afraid the performance of the LLVM compiler is not yet on par with GCC and ECL misses some optimizations.
