I also just saw that there seems to be support for 16 or 32-bit
unicode, but only by seeing the configure --help output which showed
yes|no|32, so I checked configure.in.  There I found support for 16 or
32-bit... is that a deprecated option?  I suppose that the default is
32?  If 16 is still supported, probably that it also should show in the
configure --help?
