The GPL and derived licenses ARE NOT to the benefit of the creator of the code! They are to the benefit of the USERS of the code. On the other hand, MIT/BSD etc, are indeed to the benefit of the creator and other programmers who link with it. Now of course, one could ask whether in the whole world, there is even a single one _user_ who ever took advantage of the freedoms provided to them by the GPL licenses.
