pdf2html conversion outputs garbage (null Blob)

When trying to preview a PDF the output is pure garbage.
It appears that the html version of the PDF (index.html) is being created in
the home directory of the running user (the image files are correctly in the
tmp directory) and so not found.
This is supported by the unit-test TestPDFtoHtml in nuxeo-platform-core: the
index.html file ends-up in the root of the project instead of at
/tmp/pdf2html_xxxx
