Progress report on Nuxeo 5.1 development

A lot of coding work is going on, and I’m happy to report that most of the tasks we had planned for Nuxeo 5.1 in May have been implemented.

Here are some details:
Physical archive management -> DONE
Images management -> Done in a private SVN repository, needs to be merged with the public one.
Meta-directory manager (LDAP and SQL) -> DONE
Full-featured relation engine (RDF-based) -> DONE
XForms support -> Not done, won’t be done for 5.1.
User notification framework -> DONE
Better BPM integration -> DONE
OpenOffice 2 and Microsoft Office 2003 plugins -> DONE for MS-Office
Uses Seam 1.2 and Jackrabbit 1.2 -> We’re currently using Jackrabbit 1.2.1 but only Seam 1.1.5.
Comments -> DONE
Workspace templates -> DONE
Adobe LiveCycle integration for PDF generation and stamping -> Not done. PDF generation and stamping is currently implemented instead by using OpenOffice.
Reporting (with JasperReports) -> Not done yet.
ATOM and RSS syndication -> DONE.
JSR-168 integration (portlets) -> Not done yet.
Jobs scheduling -> DONE.
Rules engine integration -> Not done yet.
External search service integration -> DONE.
We have also been working on fully switching to Maven for building the Nuxeo platform (which will greatly improve the development workflow for both core developers and integrators), and we are almost ready to switch to this new build system.

Overall, we’re quasi-ready to release a new milestone, Nuxeo 5.1M2, by the end of the week.

We’re still expecting a 5.1 release in May.

Documentation effort

Plans for a Nuxeo Developer Reference Guide have been laid out in the SVN. Every module developer has been asked to contribute a chapter on his/her part.

Related News

Seam 1.2.1 has been released, but we are still using Seam 1.1.5 for now.

In related news, Gavin King had a rather upbeat blog entry on how Seam adoption (as measured by download numbers) is happening faster than Hibernate, and how Seam is on the verge of reaching its tipping point.

Maven 2.0.6 was released.

NWN goes sporadic

Lots of developments going on but no major news to report, so we took a couple of weeks off.

We’re now back to a regular posting schedule, since we will have some new and noteworthy reports to post next weeks (Nuxeo 5.1M2 and beyond, documentation efforts, London seminar report, JavaOne report, etc.)
