The Search Service is a generic component that takes care of
indexing and searching. It's been silently living along Nuxeo for
about a month now, but wasn't used. I just made the SearchActions
bean go through it. In this first iteration, it uses the Compass
search engine as default backend, but the whole it designed to be
backend agnostic.
Work is under progress to get a user friendlier advanced search page
in the default Nuxeo application (this should happen before the end
of this week). The current search page will then evolve into an
administration page for the search service. It now bears a "reindex
all" button that you need to use once to correctly index your
application.
The query syntax is NXQL, and we tried to keep it as close as we
could to the previous existing ones. The documentation effort is in
progress, but still rather partial. See the "Searching and Indexing"
chapter in the docbook documentation that's available from svn at
http://svn/nuxeo/doc/nuxeo-book/trunk.
Let me also recall that Olivier's maintains a daily HTML snapshot at
http://public.dev.nuxeo.com/~ogrisel/nuxeo-book/nuxeo-book.html.
Applicative core going through the core's NXQL query API aren't at
all impacted, although this method might soon become deprecated.
Don't hesitate reporting problems you might get !
