OK, back to the drawing board... I have tried something meanwhile that worked.
Earlier I had everything in the directory of my choice, where I am used to work. This time, I copied settings.xml and dummy. xml to the .m2 directory that Maven created before, and ran the same Maven command from there and this time I got a successful build. Maven created a project repository in .m2, but I did not create .m2 and do not want my project to live in there. But Maven evidently has this default expectation for everything to be in .m2 I need to configure Maven to look in my folder, right? How do I do that?
