Maven is useful to build and deploy the project and to manage dependencies.
But you need to create a project and checkout the code, as Carlos said.

Anyway, chapter 3 explain how to do it and all will run ok if you follow the steps correctly.

If your question is "¿what is the best project structure?" the answer is that maven creates a well defined source layout, as you can read on chapter 3.
