Nuxeo is more an ECM tool than a CMS one.
Then, there is no real notions of frontend / backend. "In the ECM world", you
decide what are the permissions of each user or group on such domain, such
workspace or event such content item. Can this user only view the content ? Can
he edit the content ?
In Nuxeo, you have folders dedicated to "validated / approved" documents. These
are the sections. On the other side, you have workspaces where you can edit /
create documents (which life-cycle state would be "project" or "pending
approval").
In both workspaces and sections, you can configure the permissions in order to
decide who will be able to read / write, who will be able to manage Workflows
or configure permissions, and who will be able to just browse as a guest user
