Hello,
I think that you can create a new schema with the new field that you
need and add it to the existing Folder doctype. If it doesn't work you
can create a new doctype and deny the creation of the "old" Folder. The
problem of this last solution is that you'll have to create the folders
again and move the stored documents to these new folders.
