We are currently working on optimizations for VCS and NXQL : so we have already improved DashBoard rendering time. These optimizations will be part of 5.2.1 release (september).
We are also working on security check optimizations (that are specialy slow in MySQL). Please also be sure your server and DB are correctly tunned. We optimize because with several millions of documents, some dashboard requests are slow (several seconds under load). But several minutes, with few documents and few conccurent users seems really strange.
