Nuxeo 5.3 sources are compliant with Maven 2.2.1 and effectively using
maven-nuxeo-plugin version 1.0.14 which is listed in our Maven repository:
http://maven.nuxeo.org/nexus/index.html#nexus-search;gav~~maven-nuxeo-plugin~1.0.14~~
Could you confirm you're trying to build 5.3 sources (not 5.1 or 5.2)?
If so please try again, and if it still fails, paste in your next reply your
Maven errors. Maven should try to download maven-nuxeo-plugin:1.0.14 from
http://maven.nuxeo.org/
