Hi,
you are right, there was a change, now a filter, named 'create' is bound to
'New Document' button. If you want to be able to create documents having your
custom document types you have to add them to the filter, here is an example :
<filter id="create" append="true">
<rule grant="true">
<type>your_custom_doctype1</type>
<type>your_custom_doctype2</type>
</rule>
</filter>
