Yes, this has changed between 5.3.2 and 5.4. We have improved the transaction 
support in the Tomcat packaging so that it is now considered production-ready.

Also, I should add that we recommend the Tomcat version for single server 
deployment. If you need a cluster, you have to use a server that supports EJBs, 
so JBoss (support for other app servers should be also easier to add now that 
we have the "static EAR packaging").
