You're right - upgrading everyone in a company is not always possible or desirable. So, this makes me think of an idea to improve the add-ins (and any other future add-ins).
For Nuxeo... Before allowing for an automated upgrade of the add-in to proceed, the add-in should check to make sure it has been certified on the given browser/version. For example, if v0.9.10 is trying to install itself on Firefox 3.6.16, the upgrade should fail because the add-in hasn't been certified! I realize that HTML5 will do some to ameliorate the situation, however, who knows how long before Microsoft will support Drag and Drop in the browser.
