Thanks for the responses. I just played around some more and now have a partial solution.
I'd missed the bit in the documentation that said you need a 32-bit browser, and I'd been using IE8 64-bit by default. When I ran iexplore.exe out of Program Files (x86), it worked perfectly. However, it still does not work with FireFox. I stripped out everything from Protocol Handler 0.5.0 except the Word (.docx) entry, and the path information is set up properly with Program Files (x86). There is a LiveEdit icon next to the file name in the Summary tab, but it does nothing when clicked. There is no LiveEdit icon beneath the Search bar. Could there be a browser compatibility issue?
