Islamabad, February 26, 2004 PTCLs Research Development Fund Committee has approved a scheme at a cost of Rs 40 million to boost research and development at small level in the regions of Information Technology and Telecommunication.
The approval to the Thematic Research Grants Programme was given at 19th meeting of the committee headed by Minister for Information Technology Awais Ahmed Khan Leghari. The programme will be initiated under the PTCL RD Fund. A block allocation of Rs 40 million has been made to this scheme for the current fiscal year. The programme will have three competitive rounds of funding each year (once every four months) and will distribute 12 research grants in each round (six grants up to Rs 1 million and six grants up to Rs 2 million) for research and development projects in areas of IT and telecommunications. Under the programme, each round will have one theme from IT and one theme from the area of telecommunications. The first round of competition will be held within the next four months. The themes of first round selected for funding are (i) ITU compliant packet networks, and (ii) open source software. Details of these topics and other aspects of these grants (including application details, dates for submission and decisions) will be made available at the PTCL RD Fund website soon. The purpose of these grants is to reinforce and promote scientific research in basic sciences in the country to strengthen the indigenous capacity in science, and to reduce the exodus of scientific talents from the country. __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!?
