Hello,
I think it is nice to be introduced to people
using this new list. I am an ecofeminist living
and working in Lund, Sweden. I am also a political
scientist with a great interest in
ecological/environmental issues. My thesis work
deals with the environmental dimension of EC/EU
where I look at the ideas and
organizations(individuals) which have shaped the
way that environmental degradation is viewed and
which solutions are proposed to counter these
problems.
I don't intend to answer the question posted on
the network, What is ecofeminism ? One of the
reasons being that the question has been answered
already and the other reason being that there is
no ecofeminism, just ecofeminisms.
This means that it is necessary to do some reading
in order to begin trying to define what
ecofeminism is for you, or at least it would be
useful. The literature suggested by Lorraine
Elliot and others should suffice. I might add,
Shiva and Mies, Ecofeminism, Zed Books, 1993,
Greta Gaard(ed) Ecofeminism- Women, Animals and
Nature, Temple University Press, 1993.
I have read Joni Seager's book: Earth Follies and
I recommend it as it is a accessable and well
written discussion on different aspects of
environmental problems from a feminist
perspective. It is fun to read, and has some great
illustrations.
I am looking forward to the debates on this
network.
