I, too, would like to think that the Pope is not so crass as to really
engage in a cynical manipulation of theological teaching in order to
maintain institutional power. However, having personally been on the
receiving end of some Catholic Church politics, I do have nagging doubts
about integrity and sincerity among the hierarchy.
