I certainly agree - why *CAN'T* we use the term, "poor?" North vs.
South - jeez! Let's get off THAT subject. Don't remember who said
it, but "north of WHAT?" "south of WHERE?" The only similarity
going on in this area is that humankind seem to feel a need to have
SOME group of SOME kind SOMEwhere that they can feel "better than."
Actually, we all know someone who has less than we do (actually, I
don't know too MANY - but I know they exist...). That does nothing
for me, however. Though I would like to help them, if I could, I
seem to be trying to keep MY head above water to the exclusion of
MOST other problems/issues in the country (world?).
This is one reason why I try to keep ENVIRONMENTAL issues on my
"agenda." I can't help them all, or even FIGHT them all --- so I
try to focus on this. And, even this is more than I can seem to
affect..... I've worked HARD to environmental issues since BEFORE
the first Earth Day, and was pleased that those of us doing this
did cause laws to be put into effect (even though only "semi-
enforced!"). But - as they say - you should never turn your back
or stop fighting for these things. Your "enemies'" eyes are always
on you just waiting for you to turn your head------
One more thing - re the equal pay/equal (unequal?) work, and
"contributions to society and community" - this subject has always
rankled (sp?) me. All is not as it seems. Those who seem to get
endless publicity no matter WHAT they do are not ALWAYS (or even
MOSTLY) the ones who "do the most!" There are PLENTY of people who
"do" and "contribute" that you NEVER hear of. And, those who
seemingly contribute so much have SCORES of others who assisted them-
they just get the "thanks" or publicity. This is one of the great
"inequalities" of our life also.
