The Colorado College is proud to announce the Third Annual Daniel Patrick O'Connor Lecture in Social Justice. DR. VANDANA SHIVA will be the speaker and her topic will be "Enclosure and Recovery of the Commons." Dr. Shiva is an internationally-renowned physicist, biologist, and environmental activist and is the director of the Center for Science, Technology, and Natural Resource Policy in Dehra Dun, India. She is considered one of the world's leading authorities on and critics of the "Green Revolution" and has pioneered research on biodiversity, ecofeminism, and indigenous ethnoscience. Dr. Shiva is perhaps best known for her efforts in behalf of the Chipko anti-deforestation campaign among the Gharwal peasantry of the Himalayan foothills. Among her books are: Staying Alive: Women, Ecology, and Development; Monocultures of the Mind: Perspectives on Biodiversity and Biotechnology; with Maria Mies, Ecofeminism; and The Violence of the Green Revolution (all available from Zed Press). The lecture is scheduled for Sunday, September 25 at 8pm at the Packard Hall Auditorium at Colorado College in Colorado Springs, CO. It is free and open to the public.
