Greetings ECOFEMers!

I just finished viewing a newly released video on organic agriculture
in New Zealand ("Guests of the Earth"). The video includes
conversations with organic farmers in New Zealand, including
commentary by Dr. Vandana Shiva.

The video was produced by Wild Thyme Ltd., and the interviews and
footage were taken during last year's IFOAM Conference, hosted by
Lincoln University (my home institution). The video is informative
because it shows some of the positive applications of what Shiva
mentions in her book __Monocultures of the Mind: Perspectives on
Biodiversity and Biotechnology__ (1993). Of course, there's also
some incredible footage of New Zealand's "natural" environment!!

The total running time is 35 minutes, and the version I viewed was in
English. I don't know if other languages are available. I also do
not know the cost of the video. If anyone wants further details, you
can contact the producers at:

Please don't see this as a commercial endorsement. A few people
mentioned Shiva, so I thought this might add to their interest and
learning. Btw, I taught a postgraduate class this semester, Women,
Environment, and the Rhetoric of Development, and we incorporated
many of the readings from Shiva and Shiva/Mies. I'd love to see
discussion on this topic grow. I enjoy Shiva's work, but I also have
some reservations about some of her assumptions, e.g., essentalizing
Women, Third World, "indigenous". They might lead to some provocative
discussions.

I'm off for the weekend, but I'll be back on Monday. Happy weekend
to all!!

                                    Peace,
