Disputatio is a new international transdisciplinary journal of the late
middle ages (ca. 1300-1550) Each issue will provide exhaustive and
diverse treatments of one significant aspect of late medieval culture by
scholars from a variety of nations, approaches, and disciplines. We will
feature scholarly articles (4,000-12,000 words), research notes (under
3,000 words), review essays, and a comprehensive bibliography on the topic
of each issue.
Fall 1996 Issue:
Submissions Due: 1 November 1995
Scholarly articles and reserch notes concerning all aspects of the late
medieval epistle are welcome, as are queries concerning review essays.
Topics may include, but are not limited to:
Artes dictaminis, dictandi, notariae
Papal bulls and calves
Epistle in literature and art
Ecriture and epistle
Women and letters
Epistles in daily life
Physical mechanics of letter writing
Archival research/editions of unpublished letters
Humanist appropriations of the epistle
Latters and law
Epistles and power
