When I called my Congressman's Washington office late this afternoon, his aide thought the final vote would not be until tomorrow. If it's already a done deal, we can at least tell them what we think! The House of Representatives will be voting Tuesday, May 16 on the Clean Water Act Reauthorization bill, HR 961. This bill would redefine wetlands in a way that would exclude between 60 and 80 percent of what is now considered wetlands from federal protection. Wetlands provide habitat for over 35 percent of the Nation's threatened or endangered species. The bill would also rollback other significant provisions in the Clean Water Act that have been successful over the past 23 years. Call your member of Congress tonight or Tuesday and urge them to vote NO on final passage of HR 961. Capitol Switchboard: (202) 224-3121
