I just wanted to note that I agree with the following point that you made:

movement seem to care about -- indeed obsess about -- is life
BEFORE birth and AFTER death."

I also want to note that the people who really should be worrying about birth
control are the ones who live in developed countries -- especially America.
(I am an American, so I'm not bashing on them). The reason? We use 10 times
more resources that the people in the Third World. So one of our children is
equal to 10 of theirs when looking at the strain on the environment. Not
that I am saying that the Third World does not need/deserve/etc. birth
control -- I feel that it is a necessity to help liberate women.
Also, I want you guys to know that I listened to this guy from Zero
Population Growth talking to people at their booth during Earth Day 1995 in
Washington, D.C. He was saying that it was the WELFARE people that they were
concerned about having children, not the "middle class" or the "rich."
Needless to say this turned me off to their whole organization. And why is
it men who are always talking about birth control, abortion, etc. Look at
the leaders of the Right to Life Movement -- MEN! Women should be in charge
of their own bodies. After all, we are not chatel!
