Candidates will be expected to have a PhD by the time of appointment. The specialization for the positions which has already been approved is in the area of contemporary epistemology and metaphysics in the analytic tradition, together with competence in one or more of the following areas: modern philosophy, philosophy of language, philosophy of mind, logic, and the philosophy of science. The specialization for the position described as possible is in the philosophy of science, with competence in one or more of the following areas: modern philosophy, philosophy of language, philosophy of mind, and logic. For both positions it would also be desirable if candidates were able to teach undergraduate courses in environmental philosophy and/or business and professional ethics. In addition to a commitment to teaching at the undergraduate level, the department is looking for candidates who demonstrate the potential to make a strong contribution to our graduate program, by way of teaching, supervision of graduate students and research. At the doctoral level the department has a joint program with McMaster University.
