Consensus in the Countryside:
Reaching shared agreement in
policy, planning and management
Devon County Hall, Exeter
15 February 1996
Cost:#95
This conference will explore how consensus building can replace conventional
decision making mechanisms in order to resolve complex problems.
Local authorities, governmental and voluntary agencies active in rural areas are
fast becoming interested in the potential benefits of community-based consensus
building. They now see it as a positive way to create management plans, policies
and projects which have clear community support -'ownership' - with all the
benefits that can bring to later success in creative and conflict-free
implementation.
The conference will draw on innovative work using this exciting new technique,
from around the UK.
