It is not ecofeminism to abrogate the evolutionary order.
Just as there is plant and animal so herbivore and carnivore,
predator, parasite and prey.
Life and death are integral to the natural cycle.
New Zealand is overrun with possums and other introduced animals.
Humanity thus has to assume the role of predator to preserve endangered species.
Buddhists try to tell me a possum is as valuable as the drastically
endangered kiwi because they are both sentient beings. Tibetan Lamas solve
the dilemma of complicity in the 'karma' of killing an animal (which might
also be a human incarnation) by getting Muslims to slaughter their animals.
This is where I think Buddhism doesn't begin to touch the Earth. There is
no evidence that karma follows such moral law. Evolution is the covenant.
Morality is piffle. Pandora's box is the very box of living diversity.
Cats evolved to eat flesh. That is the covenant with nature,
To try to get the lion to lie down with the lamb is patriarchal fantasy.
If the woman can lie down with the man in security we will have redeemed
the world.
Despite the lentil-eating disposition of the writer of Genesis 1,
where the fruit, herbs and trees, but not the animals are meat,
the Yahwist author thought differently. Noah's flesh fried. God was pleased.
Sometimes I have to go on the hunt. I regret this but accept it.
I try to be compassionate, but I accept that to preserve the ecosystem, I
am regretfully going to have to play the grim reaper for this round.
