HC wrote that the only thing we could eat with a clear conscience would be human fetuses, as they are the only unliving, edible material available. Go for it Jeffrey, I mean, HC. And while you're at it, take a Biology 101 course. There you will learn about itsy-bitsy microscopic organisms that make up most of the things we think are non-living. They are called monerans and protists. Our beings are entirely living, including a fetus (that is, lest I start an unwanted abortion debate, the tissues it is made up of are indeed living; whether it's alive or not as an actual *being*, we'll leave that to the Christian Right to decide! :) ) Anyway, there is no human diet that would not include living organisms, in some way, shape, or form. So, my opinion echos one already expressed on this list. Respect what you must eat to survive, and make your own moral choices beyond that. I must throw in my two cents regarding beef since no one else has mentioned this: mass production of cattle is contributing to severe desertification of our lands. If this keeps up (trends say it will), we will all be living in the Sahara without having moved! Natalie Alane Sociologist University of Kentucky
