Coastal Resources Center at the Graduate School of Oceanography at the

JOB DESCRIPTION
Marine Research Associate IV
Ph.D. or master's degree in a discipline related to coastal resources
management with a policy emphasis required, as is an undergraduate degree
in civil engineering. (Appointment with only a master's degree requires a
minimum of four years of experience working with coastal management
agencies at the state, municipal and federal levels in the US). The
following are required: experience in providing technical assistance in
shorefront planning in developing countries; experience utilizing GIS,
ARC/INFO with an emphasis on natural resource management projects; basic
skills in written and oral Spanish; demonstrated ability to communicate
effectively both verbally and writing in cross-cultural setting; ability to
travel internationally up to four months per year; ability to conduct
public meetings several evenings per week (must provide own
transportation); excellent communication skills (written and verbal).
Language capability in an Asian language preferred. Position is limited to
one year with extension contingent on funding. Submit a letter of

and local NGOs. The following are required: experience working on ICM
issues both in the U.S. and developing countries; working directly with
NGOs and small communities in Spanish-speaking developing countries
residency in the developing country for part of that period preferred;
demonstrated fluency in Spanish (written and oral), demonstrated experience
working with a variety of stakeholder groups (e.g., private sector,
fishermen, community groups, teachers) on ICM program- related activities,
ability to conduct and attend public meetings and workshops in the U.S.
(including some evenings and weekends); ability to travel internationally
up to four months per year; experience in implementing
national/international fundraising efforts related to integrated coastal
management (i.e., writing proposals and follow-up to government agencies
and private foundations); excellent communication skills. Position is
