Subject: Introductions...
In-Reply-To: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
This is my first time on this listserve, so I felt that it was in order
that I introduce myself. I am attending Western Washington University in
Bellingham, Washington. I became interested in ecofeminism in particular
last spring after taking a course titled "Women in Environmental
Politics." I am currently working on my own independent study on
Ecofeminist Theory. I know very little, and have much research and
reading to do, so I come into these discussions with a somewhat clear and
open mind.
I am very interested in any book recommendations anyone has
regarding ecofeminism. If there are some "BIBLES" that I should read for
the perspective, I would love the recommendations. I look forward to
learning more through this medium.

Subject: Re: Two Books
Female power and male domination, by Peggy Reeves Sanday includes an
interesting chapter on "The environmental context of metaphors for sexual
identity"
The lenses of gender, by Sandra Lipsitz Bem is like the Torah for feminist
neophytes like me. For "Shiva-ecofemers", the chapter on biological
essentialism is quite a pertinent context in understanding Dr. Shiva's
criticism of the biological reductionist abyss that feminists unknowingly
fall into...
