http://www.feminist.org The Feminist Majority On-Line March 1996 Dear Feminist Activist, The campaign to defeat the deceptively-titled California "Civil Rights" Initiative (CCRI), scheduled for the November state ballot, is in full = swing. As I continue my California tour, I am speaking to thousands of = students, recruiting and organizing young feminists to fight the nationwide attack = on women's rights and affirmative action. We must sound the alarm that this initiative, a constitutional amendment, not only bans affirmative action programs for women and people of color in public employment, public education, and public contracting, but also guts the effectiveness of = state laws and constitutional protection against sex discrimination. In an all-out grassroots effort to defeat the deceptive CCRI, we are galvanizing students for Freedom Summer `96 on campuses throughout = California and the nation. Already, Freedom Summer '96 is organizing on 129 = college campuses nationwide and over 100 colleges in California alone. As we = train young feminists to fight for women's rights and civil rights, we are = also building a Feminization of Power campaign for the future. We are = teaching young people campaign skills -- speaking, organizing, fundraising -- = skills which they will use in their future careers. If you are interested, or know other interested feminist activists, in interning for Freedom Summer '96, please contact the Freedom Summer Team = at 703-522-2214 or [EMAIL PROTECTED] You may register for the = internship online through our web site at = http://www.feminist.org/other/ccri/cahome.html. Also, for updated = affirmative action and Freedom Summer '96 information, join our = Affirmative Action Alert Network. Send an e-mail to = [EMAIL PROTECTED] Leave the subject heading blank and in the body = write only: subscribe aa-alert By joining the Affirmative Action Alert network, you become privy to the hottest affirmative action updates such as the latest statewide Field = Poll, the most respected state poll in California. The Field Poll reports = that 2/3 of Californians now know about the deceptive initiative....and of these, about 50% are opposed! For the first time we, according to the polls, = are in a competitive position. The Initiative's tricky language -- it appears = only to outlaw discrimination and "preferential treatment based on race, sex = and national origin -- fooled large amounts of the electorate. But, our = message that it hurts women's rights and ends affirmative action programs is = getting out and has increased opposition to CCRI. =20 Join us in the fight to keep the doors of opportunity open for women and people of color. Intern with us for Freedom Summer '96 as we tell the = media, California, and the nation -- WE WON'T GO BACK! =09 For Equality, Ellie Smeal, President The Feminist Majority >From [EMAIL PROTECTED] Thu Apr 4 11:01:03 1996 From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] id <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> for [EMAIL PROTECTED]; Thu, 04 Apr 1996 13:00:56 -0500 (EST) Date: Thu, 04 Apr 1996 13:00:56 -0500 (EST) Subject: Re: save UN To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Organization: Indiana University of Pennsylvania Regarding the U.N. finacial crisis, you can e-mail the president at: [EMAIL PROTECTED] and ask if he intends to let the UN fold.
