invocative they may be, its just a song, not a justified piece of
criticism. i'm not attempting to invalidate my own signature line, but its
just a string of buzzwords folks. its not like they explain why. might
make you wonder why you have reactions to such 'invocative' text. i read a
book, cant remember the title or the author (oddly enough, i can usually
remember cites) who did a study on buzzwords and their effect on us as a
society. his claim went along the lines of 'buzzwords are like badges we
wear on our sleeves, but at the point that we reduce concepts to freedom,
justice, love, life, quality of life, etc, we have effectively eroded the
concepts and yet we continue to value the button on our sleeve.' its what
the nazis did folks, a little bit of justification in the beginning, a
slippery slope and an armband. they used it to justify genocide. its
something to think about. interesting sidenote, the lead singer of bad
religion did an interview with some zine (its on the web) and the
interviewer said he was quite the sexist. i dunno, lyrics are lyrics are
lyrics. they're interesting but they lack much of a warrent for their

now my independent rant. how about getting a good substantive discussion
going about feminism and evironmental regulation. there is a solid
research base on it. the true reason i would like to start such a
discussion is because it seems to me as though the l ends up having one
minor discussion per month or so and then the rest of the time is spent
talking about trivial (non germane would be a better term) peripheries of
feminism. its as if i've joined a listserv of followers where no one
discusses the issues that the listserv is intended to revolve around. the
discussions that i have witnessed have been shallow at best and lack any
momentum. if nothing else this 'invocation' of mine might start a
discussion if not about my suggested area, then about my reason for
suggesting. and pleeeeeasse, dont say, 'i agree.' the last thing i want
to do is stop a discussion from happening.
