Environmental crackdown in Calif.

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) - Federal prosecutors in Northern California, who for
years have brought the fewest criminal environmental cases in the country,
are promising to change the trend. The region's new U.S. attorney Wednesday
announced criminal charges against the owner, operator and two crewmen of a
ship accused of dumping oil off the Pacific coast this fall. U.S. Attorney
Robert Mueller III, who took office in August, brought in a veteran
environmental prosecutor from the Justice Department, Herbert Johnson, and
said more lawyers would be added to the team. See full story
