[EMAIL PROTECTED] ------- Forwarded Message Follows ------- This is to announce a very exciting program that is starting up aimed at interested professionals who are seeking to expand and apply their current technical expertise into the areas of gender analysis, and women in development through a professional fellowship program called the Worldwide Women in Development Fellows Program (WWID). WorldWID's goal is to expand the pool of Women-in-Development (WID) experts within the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and the institutions that collaborate with it. WorldWID provides a unique opportunity for U.S. citizens who are technical experts in areas related to USAID's (United States Agency for International Development) strategic concerns with: (1) democracy, governance, legal and human rights; (2) economic growth; (3) human capacity development, girls' primary education; (4) environment; or (5) health, population and nutrition. The program is to increase their understanding of Women in Development (WID) issues and gender analysis and to apply this knowledge to the performance of WID-related tasks during a 3-10 month assignment in a USAID office or field mission in Africa, Asia, the Near East, Latin America, the Caribbean, Central and Eastern Europe, or the Newly Independent States of the former Soviet Union. Each fellowship includes a stipend of $2500 per month, which may be supplemented by the Fellow's home institution/employer in the United States, as well as domestic and international travel connected with the grant and some additional support for overseas expenses. Normal appointment is for 12 months. although shorter periods may be considered. Fellows must demonstrate strong, current institutional support and have a guaranteed position to return to. Both men and women are encouraged to apply; no previous WID training is needed. High priority placed on minority candidates. WorldWID Time frame: 1996 DEADLINE FOR APPLICATION IS OCTOBER 1. The current fellowships will begin in January 1997. Future application deadlines for 1997-1998 and 1998-1999 will be March 1 for Fellows who will begin training in June and go to the field in September. WorldWID Fellows will spend approximately two months in specialized training and mentoring in gender analysis and the field of WID at the University of Florida, with a component in Washington, D.C. being introduced to USAID. Fellows will then be placed for 3 to 9 months in field assignments in USAID Missions or funded projects overseas or, in some cases, in USAID Bureaus in Washington D.C.
